Meet Adam: Clinical Psychologist, Life Coach and Therapist in Amsterdam
Hello, I’m Adam, an Australian expat and Clinical Psychologist living in Amsterdam with my young family. With over 13 years of experience in therapy and life coaching, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals, couples, families, and teams across a range of roles and challenges.
I’m registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency, hold a specialist endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist, am a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society’s College of Clinical Psychologists, and am registered with the Nederlands Instituut van Psychologen. I also have a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, am an approved supervisor of other psychologists through the Psychology Board of Australia, and am a life coach trainer.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked in diverse settings, from private practice to the not-for-profit sector and the Australian Defence Force.
In my private practice, I’ve worked with individuals and couples, both expats and locals, including those from LGBTQI+ communities, seeking support for a range of mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, burnout, and eating disorders. My focus is always on creating a safe, inclusive space where clients feel understood and supported as they work toward lasting change.
My work in the not-for-profit sector focused on supporting families of children with complex behavioral issues, and as a life coach, I’ve also guided adolescents and young adults through life’s challenges. In the Australian Defence Force, I provided psychological care to individuals facing various mental health difficulties and worked with high-performing teams and special forces personnel on optimizing mental fitness and performance.
I believe mental health exists on a continuum, and no matter where you are on that spectrum, there’s always room to strengthen your well-being. My approach is grounded in evidence-based strategies tailored to your unique needs, whether you’re recovering from trauma or burnout, navigating a mental health condition, or simply seeking to build resilience and clarity in your life.
I have extensive experience with evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My specialty lies in trauma therapy, helping clients process and heal from difficult experiences. I’m also trained in the Gottman Method, which I use to help couples strengthen or repair their relationships. Additionally, my training at the Child Behaviour Research Centre under Professor Mark Dadds equipped me to support parents in managing children with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD).
As a life coach, I use evidence-based practices to develop practical tools and guide individuals in navigating personal or professional challenges, building resilience, and improving mental fitness. This could also involve burnout coaching, which can be for both prevention and recovery.
My ultimate goal is to build a rapport with my clients and a supportive space in order for them to get the most out of their sessions with me. Whether you’re looking to overcome mental health challenges, recover from or prevent burnout, foster healthier relationships or family dynamics, or enhance your mental fitness, all are welcome, and I’d be glad to chat.
I offer therapy in English, both online and in-person, for those seeking evidence-based support in Amsterdam or throughout the Netherlands. Plus, I provide a free 15-minute introduction call so you can gauge if we’d be a good fit.
